"I propose to do a one-day residency at This Neck of the Woods in mid-June 2006 to work on the following paper for presentation at the Cultural Analysis Summer Academy (CASA) organized by PhD students from the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis (ASCA) at the University of Amsterdam. This paper will be an attempt to walk a line between self-reflection about my own experiences with the McCleave Gallery, and wider reflections about how portable exhibition spaces constitute their audiences, understood from a loosely Marxist perspective. I hope that the combining the format of a curator’s talk with having the suitcase available for viewing throughout the conference will contribute to CASA’s mandate of considering the potentials and challenges of mixing academic work with attempted social transformation, and addressing a wide range of participants."
